Seattle

Arrived Friday night at 11pm on my 2-hour late Amtrak train. Met the owner of the boat (the skipper? the captain? I’m not sure) and crashed at his son’s apartment.

The next morning we went to the boat and met the other two crew members, Nate and Jonathan. They’re both 21, childhood friends who’ve been living in Hawaii for the last year. Ernest and energetic, they’ve already made me feel old.

I haven’t had time or energy for posting to the blog because I’ve spent the last 2 days sanding, grinding, painting, drilling, gluing, and caulking. Yeah, the boat still needs some work, you may have noticed there is no mast or sails. Worry not, they’ve simply been taken off to check for problems and replace the rigging. We’ll put the mast back up in the next day or two and then the boat will be put back in the water. Then we have a lot of organizing and cleaning and after that we have to load the boat full of food (56 meals for 4 people). I’m tired just thinking about it! No, it’s all good. I’ve learned more about how a sailboat works in the last few days than I had previously known. It will be good to know where all the nooks, crannies, and oddities of the boat are before we set sail. Will try to post before leaving with more pictures. And we will have a satellite phone, for all you worriers out there (you know who you are). The satellite phone also means I may try to post from somewhere in the middle of the ocean on our way to Hawaii. Sorry, no pics will be possible until I hit land.

Hanging out…
